Process, Design and Implementation Consideration for Membrane Processes at Miami-Dade Water & Sewer Department
Conference Proceeding by American Water Works Association, 01/01/1999

Document Format: PDF

Description

For the purposes of decreasing disinfection byproduct (DBP formation potential and reducing finished water color, Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department (MDWASD) authorized bench-scale studies of membrane softening (nanofiltration), ozone, and electron beam treatment technologies in 1995. These results, previously reported, led to a decision to conduct pilot-scale testing of nanofiltration at two neighboring water teatment facilities and post-softening ozone with and without granular activated carbon (GAC) technology at one facility. Bench and full-scale studies were also conducted on various enhanced softening processes. These studies provided cost and operational data as well as conceptual design criteria for future modifications and upgrades to MDWASD’s existing system to meet the upcoming Disinfectant/Disinfection Byproducts Rule.
